Who Knew? Late Spring Rain Coming Next Week!
It may not surprise anyone after our wet winter that spring would turn out cool and showery. However, a pattern setting up for next week is a bit unusual, and could very well bring measurable mid-May rain all across the North Bay.
For now, the deep 3000 foot layer of coastal fog and low clouds continues to grip the entire California coast. As you can see in this satellite view, the stratus deck once again blanketed the North Bay, and pushed all the way inland to the Sierra Nevada!
Through Friday, a weak trough will back into central and southern California from Nevada, bringing a few showers to areas well to our south. After that, we should be seeing less of the persistent cloud bank and more sunshine into the weekend, with highs reaching the mid 70s in the Santa Rosa region.
Looking ahead to next week, things get a bit more interesting. Our brief interlude of high pressure will be pushing east, allowing a trough of low pressure to sag into our region, bringing cool weather, and even showers for a few days beginning midweek.
The models are all over the place on this one, but this is how the GFS model sees the Wednesday through Friday time period as of today.
So, a bit wet and showery for the North Bay region, with highs struggling to break the 70 degree mark for most of next week. And the long range outlook from the Climate Forecast Center looks pretty wet through late May.
Of course, this spring has brought us some pretty wacky weather, so this may change.
But if you’re waiting for the hot weather to set in for the summer, it looks like the wait will continue!
