Wetting Rain Arrives in North Bay

Share with Friends

At 1PM on Monday, the first storm of the fall season was approaching the North Bay.

Light rain is expected to begin across the North Bay counties from mid to late afternoon, and continue in showers into early Tuesday.  Much heavier rain is expected in NW California, where by 1PM some locations had already recorded one half to over an inch of rainfall.

Most of the North Bay rainfall will be much lighter, as the cold front is expected to wash out over our region. The latest high resolution models are pretty much in agreement and show one or two tenths of an inch in the valleys of the North Bay, with more to the north.

So this first storm will bring very light rainfall to the North Bay. Most of the longer range models show additional rain, mostly light, arriving across Northern California over the next 2-3 weeks, which is good news from a fire weather perspective. Here is the European ensemble outlook for total rain by October 9th. At present no long dry periods seem to be in the forecast.

And, more good news is that most extended models show us with pretty normal temperatures over the next few weeks, and if anything, just a bit cooler than average for early October.
