Urban Flooding Possible as Storm Packs a Punch

Share with Friends

Heavy rain moved into the North Bay at about 5AM on Thursday, with the intensity of rain prompting urban and small stream flood advisories for much of the Bay Area.

Here was the radar view Thursday morning.

The intense cold front can be seen well on satellite as it digs into the Bay Area.

For the rest of Thursday, expect heavy rain at times, along with ponding on roads and small rises in streams across the North Bay.  The rain will be turning to showers by Thursday afternoon.

Here are the updated rain totals expected.  Lots of rain across the entire Bay Area, with one inch to three inches across the North Bay.

For the Sierra, if you’re heading there for the MLK weekend, the weather should clear by early Friday, with lots of new snow.  18-24 inches at the resorts near Lake Tahoe.

After a mostly rain free holiday weekend, it now looks like another storm may move in sometime on Monday, but for now the forecast models disagree on the timing, and strength of the storm.  Stay tuned!
