Tuesday AM Update: Kincade Slows, Power Shutoffs Continue, Evaucations Ongoing

KINCADE FIRE

The Kincade fire grew very little overnight Monday, and was reported at 75 thousand acres with 15 percent containment. Fire crews continue to cut and strengthen lines around the fire in the hills east of Windsor and north of the Mark West community. The most recent growth of the fire has been to the east, towards Lake County. This map shows the progression of the fire lines over the past three days.

The blaze has destroyed 57 homes, and Cal Fire says 90 thousand homes remain potentially threatened. More than 4500 firefighters from Cal Fire and hundreds of agencies across the state and nation were on the fire lines and based at the fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. 550 fire engines, 27 helicopters, numerous aircraft including the state’s 747 supertanker and DC-10 tanker were being used at various times to battle the fire.

RED FLAG WARNING

The weather service has issued another Red Flag Warning, the third in ten days which weather service officials say has never happened before in Northern California.

Winds are forecast to increase by early afternoon over the North Bay, and reach their peak around midnight. The event will not be as strong, or long lasting, as the one Saturday into Sunday.

PG&E POWER SHUTOFFS

While a few of the 95 thousand Sonoma County and more than 200 thousand North Bay customers of PG&E whose power was cut had their power restored Monday, most did not and PG&E said their power would remain out through the upcoming PSPS event which begins Tuesday. The Utility plans to cut off power to 87 thousand customers in Sonoma County and some 600 thousand statewide in 29 counties in their latest Power Shutoff Event. Thousands in the North Bay have been without power for 3 days, and that will continue for at least another day and night.

EVACUATIONS

Although tens of thousand were allowed to return to their homes in the West County Monday afternoon, more than 100 thousand residents of Sonoma County remain evacuated in the cities of Healdsburg, Windsor, Santa Rosa north of Steele Lane and west of Highway 101 north of Hwy 12. This includes thousands in unincorporated rural areas near the potential path of the Kincade fire. Here is more information evacuations:
