THUNDERSTORM CHANCES CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Share with Friends

As of 10AM Wednesday, high-based showers and thundershowers were moving over the Bay Area and North Bay. A few green lightning flashes were detected by satellite. Most of the showers were not reaching the ground.

For the rest of the day, clouds and showers will move from south to north across the region. Most showers will evaporate before reaching the ground due to the extremely dry lower layer of the atmosphere. Here is one high resolution model which shows a surge of showers and instability, depicted as high cloud tops, moving over our area around 3-6 PM Wednesday, then reaching a peak over Northern California.

However another high resolution solution has most of these showers passing to our east this afternoon.

Fire agencies throughout the area will be on the lookout for any lightning strikes that occur. This event will not be similar in scope or intensity to the historic 2020 lightning outbreak, but a few cloud to ground strikes, with very little expected rain, are a possibility.

We’ll keep you updated as conditions warrant.
