STORMS MOVE IN. BIG TOTALS POSSIBLE BY WEDNESDAY.

BIG PICTURE

A strong cutoff low pressure system will bring rain to the North Bay from Sunday through Tuesday. Another system will brush us on Wednesday bringing more rain on the heels of the first storm.

SHORT TERM FORECAST

The first showers from the outer bands of the storm arrived early Sunday, a bit sooner than forecast. The rain will become heavier Sunday night into Monday, with bouts of rain, heavy at times into late Tuesday.

As you can see in this forecast loop, another cutoff low will brush us with showers on Wednesday. After that, we may stay dry into Christmas Eve the 24th and possibly through Christmas Day, with another significant storm possible late on the 26th, or early on the 27th.

Here are projected rainfall amounts. The rain will arrive along the coast in several waves, with heavy rain expected early Monday, then again on Tuesday.

First is the total rainfall via the European model through Monday, followed by the total through Tuesday, and then the total through Wednesday. The North Bay could see 3-4 inches of rain by Thursday, with more in the hills.

The models don’t agree on rainfall amounts, but the European seems to be in the middle of the pack.

Finally, the next storm after Thursday may hold off until December 26th or early on the 27th.

More updates to come.
