COVID-19 updates for Sonoma County for March 21st.

  • Number of Sonoma County coronavirus cases currently at 23.  One death.  Up two cases from Friday.  400 tested (up from 285 on Friday).
  • The Redwood Empire Food Bank is scaling up food assistance in Sonoma County.  If you need food help, go to getfood.refb.org and enter your zipcode to find distribution locations near you.
  • Santa Rosa City Schools will be offering free meals to school children from throughout the county at 9 city locations beginning Monday, March 23rd.  Distribution will be from 11:30AM to 1PM Monday through Friday via drive up, or walk up.  The meals are open to all children ages 0-18 enrolled in an Sonoma County school district.  The locations are:
    • Brook Hill Elementary – 1850 Vallejo St

    • Burbank Elementary – 203 S A St

    • Cook Middle School – 2480 Sebastopol Rd

    • Elsie Allen High School – 599 Bellevue Ave

    • Lewis Education Center – 2230 Lomitas Ave

    • Lincoln Elementary – 850 W 9th St

    • Monroe Elementary – 2567 Marlow Rd

    • Piner High School – 1700 Fulton Rd

    • Santa Rosa Middle School – 500 E St

  • Sonoma County reports a backlog of testing results from commercial labs.  Many more test results are expected to be released this week, with more positive tests expected.  County Health Officer says shelter in place precautions are expected to lower new infection rate in the coming weeks.
  • Volunteers are needed to help with food distribution to shut-ins and other critical activities in the comings days.  A Bay Area Volunteer dashboard has been set up to direct you to local agencies needing your help.  The work will be done under rules observing social distancing protocols.  Go to Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership.  You will be directed to opportunities in your area.
  • The Sonoma County Emergency Operations Center is working with regional healthcare providers to scale up testing as the emergency continues.  A shortage of testing materials like swabs continues in the area and the nation.
  • The State of California has extended the state income tax filing deadline to July 15th, matching the 90 day extension announced by the feds.  No interest or penalties will be assessed.
  • A phone in virtual coronavirus town hall for the North Bay will take place on Wednesday, March 25th at 6:30PM.  Answering questions will be the public health officers from Marin and Sonoma counties, and a U.C. infectious disease expert.  Questions can be submitted to state senator Mike McGuire at  Senator.McGuire@Senate.Ca.Gov.  The dial in number will be 844-767-5679 Code: 204015.
