SMART to Kick Off Larkspur Service December 14th

SMART is launching its new Larkspur service in mid-December with a limited time deal; $12 one way to San Francisco.

The so called “Sail and Rail” pass program is being offered during a six month trial period.  Passengers must book via the phone app and take advantage of the two for one option.  The prices are available for weekday off peak travel.

For other passengers, the cost to get to San Francisco from Sonoma County will be $18 each way when customers travel with a Clipper Card, and take advantage of a transfer discount provided between SMART and the Golden Gate Bridge District Ferry.

Although SMART service to Larkspur will launch on December 14th, the rail line is expanding weekday service on January 2nd, when additional trains will go into service in an effort to eliminate current gaps in the schedule.

The long-awaited two mile extension from San Rafael to Larkspur was built at a cost of $55 million, and still requires a half mile walk between the Larkspur rail station and the Larkspur ferry terminal.  Planners say the walk will take about 10 minutes, and train and ferry schedules have been coordinated to accommodate the travel time.

One day before the Larkspur station opens to passengers, SMART will host a gala party, featuring dignitaries and elected officials from throughout Marin and Sonoma Counties.
