Sierra Snow, North Bay Rain Help Push Back Fire Season

The significant May rainstorm that is now moving out of the state brought much needed moisture to large areas of California, even dumping up to a foot of snow in the Sierra.

In the Sierra, snow shovels came out around Tahoe and elsewhere above 6 thousand feet, and the upper reaches of Yosemite were caked in snow Tuesday morning, making for magnificent views.

Across Sonoma County, wide areas in the hills received more than an inch of rain, with more than two inches recorded in the wettest spots like Venado west of Healdsburg.

Across the rest of Northern California storm totals of 2-5 inches were common, especially in the mountains, and fire officials say the beneficial late season moisture will help to delay the onset of severe fire conditions as summer begins.

The storm is moving out of the state on Tuesday, and seasonably mild conditions in the 70s and clear skies are expected across the North Bay for the Memorial Day weekend.
