Redwood Empire Food Bank Preparing for Crush of Need

Share with Friends

The already busy Redwood Empire Food Bank is gearing up for a surge of new demand, as those thrown out of work by the coronavirus crisis and regional shelter in place orders seek help in the coming weeks.

The food bank already serves as a key food source for 82 thousand people across Sonoma County, delivering food to 300 locations to reach people in need.  And through its programs, the food bank reaches thousands more people in need across a five county North Bay region.

But with the coronavirus emergency causing increased economic stress on families already on the edge, officials are mapping strategies for getting even more food to those who need it across the North Bay.

(If you’d like to donate to the Food Bank, or volunteer, you can do that here.)

The Food Bank has been instrumental in helping the region respond to a series of disasters in the past few years, including fires and floods, and according to CEO David Goodman, that knowledge is informing how the organization gears up for the surge in demand that is sure to come in the next few weeks.
