Reduced Fire Concerns as Big Cool Down On the Way

Share with Friends

After a few scorching days in the North Bay, a big cool down is headed our way, and that along with increased humidity in most areas will help tamp down fire weather concerns across most of the North Bay, at least for now.

On Monday much of inland Sonoma County was flirting with the century mark, with Sonoma County airport coming in at 96 degrees, and Santa Rosa 94.  Those temperatures will cool by around 10 degrees today, and another 5 degrees or more on Wednesday.  Along with the cool air will come increased humidity levels, even inland.

As of Tuesday at noon, a cool trough of low pressure is digging in along the California coast, causing the marine layer to deepen rapidly.  That coastal stratus will push further inland late Tuesday and Wednesday.

Along with this will come cooler temperatures extending far inland by Wednesday afternoon.  Sacramento’s high of 82 and Santa Rosa’s high of 77 are both well below averages for this time of year.  Along with the cooling will come increased humidity.

And we don’t expect any big warm ups in the near future.  By Monday, high temperatures will be back near normal, but no big heat waves are foreseen for at least the next week as a strong marine influence remains with us.

And the National Interagency Fire Center keeps our wildfire risk at moderate through the period, with no heat waves or dry wind events foreseen in the immediate future.
