A moderate “inside slider” event will bring drying winds and gusts to 55 mph over portions of the Sacramento Valley and Sierra foothills from late Thursday into Friday, prompting the NWS in Sacramento to issue a Red Flag Warning over a large area. (Image 1)
The highest winds are expected to stay to our east, and the NWS in the Bay Area is not issuing fire weather products at this time.
A short-lived heat up today into the 90s (Image 2) will be followed by slight cooling Thursday and Friday as the low pressure center that will bring wind to Northern California moves southeast into the Great Basin. (Image 3)
Due to the position of the low pressure center, the highest winds are expected to come late Thursday into Friday, and favor the Sacramento Valley and the foothills of the Sierra. (Image 4)
Zooming into Northern California, you can see how the highest winds are expected to be focused from eastern Napa County to the Sacramento Valley and Sierra foothills. (Image 5)
Despite this, winds may reach 30-45mph over the highest peaks of eastern Napa County, and potentially northern Sonoma County from late Thursday into Friday. (Image 6) Although fire weather warnings may not be issued locally, the fire danger will definitely be rising through the period, with warm temperatures, breezy conditions, low relative humidity (Image 7) and drying fuels throughout the region.
