RAIN RETURNS TO CALIFORNIA

Share with Friends

HERE COMES THE RAIN After a four week mid-winter dry spell, rain will return to California early in the coming week. It will start slow, but the weekend of February 14-15 looks to be quite wet across much of the state. And rain may be with us, off and on, from the 14th to the 20th.

As the changes begin, low pressure will dive down just west of California on Tuesday, bringing a system with light rain. (Image 1)

A few showers may reach the North Bay. The main action comes on the 14th-16th, when a much deeper trough sets up, allowing storms to spin down from the north into the state. (Image 2)

Here’s the precipitation outlook from the Euro AI model for the 10th (Tuesday) through the 20th. (Image 3)

The change is being driven in part by the Madden Julian Oscillation, in which the active convection (thunderstorms) have moved into the Indian Ocean (zone 3) (Image 4)

You can see the rain beginning around Tuesday, but really beginning to accumulate next weekend. This is the outlook for the Sonoma County Airport. (Image 5)

And, it will turn much colder across California beginning this coming week. (Image 6) More updates to come!
