With increasing winds and heat arriving as early as Saturday, PG&E expanded its PSPS watch area Friday to include Zones 3 and 4 which covers the North Bay including most of Sonoma, Marin, Lake, Napa and Mendocino counties.  The watch was issued for Sunday and Monday, but power could be shut off in some areas as early as late on Saturday.

PG&E says it will attempt to contact customers who may have their power shut off.  To check your address, visit this link:

As of late on Friday, PG&E was only showing a small area of the North Bay to the north and east of Calistoga as being affected by the upcoming PSPS event.  This area is shown in yellow below.

However the shutoff area may change and expand as the PSPS event approaches.  To view the most current map, visit this link: PGE Projected PSPS Map

At the same time the National Weather Service issued Red Flag Warnings beginning Saturday at 9PM for elevated areas of the North Bay as well as the East Bay’s hills and valleys.  The Red Flag Warning runs through 8AM on Monday.

Forecasts are calling for winds from the north to pickup Saturday afternoon and be strongest late Saturday through early Sunday.  Winds will be in the range of 35-40 miles per hour with gusts reaching as high as 50 mph on the highest peaks.  Another period of high winds is expected Sunday night into early Monday.

The latest models show wind speeds expected over the mountains of the North Bay.  These are winds forecast to occur at about 2500 feet elevation early Sunday morning according to two different models.

They show winds from the north at about 40 miles per hour, with higher gusts likely.
