Late Saturday: First Case of Coronavirus Community Spread Detected in Sonoma County

Share with Friends

In widely-expected development, the Sonoma County Department of Public Health announced late Saturday March 14th that the first confirmed case of community spread of the coronavirus had been detected in Sonoma County.

The case came as a result of the county’s enhanced surveillance program, in which it tested dozens of patients presenting with symptoms at local hospitals and clinics over the past few days.

Another possible case related to the first is awaiting test results. The County’s Health Officer says all contacts of the confirmed case are being traced and notified.

A press conference is to be held Sunday at noon, and News of the North Bay will have more information at that time.

Also late on Saturday:

The Sonoma Sonoma County Office of Education and Department of Health Services (DHS) recommended the suspension of in-person K-12 classes countywide through, at minimum, March 27. All Sonoma County libraries are closing through, at minimum, through March 31.

Earlier in the day, the Santa Rosa School District annouced the suspension of classes in all of its schools until April 5th.
