The weather story across the North Bay is big rains, flooding, and more to come.  The current storm totals as of Tuesday morning are impressive.  Notice Venado, at 11.03 inches, the Santa Rosa area ranging from 4 to 5 inches, Petaluma at 2.5 to 3 inches, and most of hilly Marin County over 5 inches.  Although not on the map, Cazadero and other wet spots in western Sonoma County have also received upward of 11 inches so far.

The atmospheric river that’s been pummeling the North Bay will shift north briefly, then move gradually south today and tonight, but we’ll still be getting plenty of rain.  Here is the satellite view of the incoming moisture.

And the forecast for the next 48 hours as the storm and atmospheric river gradually shift south.

The Russian River will experience major flooding starting early Wednesday, after going over flood stage around 7PM Tuesday.

The Russian is forecast to crest at 45.9 feet at 11PM on Wednesday, which will flood most of downtown Guerneville, Rio Nido, Monte Rio and much of the lower river.  And, it is expected to remain over flood stage for more than 48 hours…finally returning to its banks at 10PM on Thursday.

And there is plenty more rain to come.  Here is the forecast of additional rainfall through the upcoming weekend.  Including another 5 inches in Santa Rosa.

So get ready for a continuing wild ride through late Wednesday, with flooding problems continuing on the Russian River through most of Thursday.
