HEAT RISK RISES FROM WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY
After a fairly mild few weeks the risk of above normal heat will return to the North Bay beginning on Wednesday. The hottest locations will approach 100 degrees as high pressure pushes into the region. Nothing that unusual for early July, but worth noting just the same.
For now low pressure is keeping Northern California a bit cooler than average.

By Friday a ridge of high pressure will become established off the Pac NW coast.

That will cause temperatures across inland areas to rise 10-15 degrees on Wednesday, and another 10 degrees or so on Thursday and Friday. That will translate into temperatures in the 90s for most inland areas of the North Bay on Thursday and Friday. The peak of the short blast of heat should take place on Friday when the hottest locations may hit 100 degrees
The NWS has issued a heat advisory for Thursday and Friday across inland areas. Due to weak onshore flow, the immediate coast will stay nice and cool, in the 60s.

By Saturday a refreshing blast of cool air is forecast to push inland, cooling temperatures off quite a bit for most areas.
You can see that cool (blue) plume of marine air reaching the North Bay in this temperature anomaly forecast from the European model. That will drop inland temperatures back into the high 70s to low 80s, and that should hold through the first part of the coming week.

Interestingly, taking a look further out, the longest range outlooks suggest that most of California may enjoy seasonable temperatures through early August (image below). Mainly within a few degrees of average for mid-summer. That doesn’t mean there won’t be some hot weather, but rather that those heat ups should (if the forecast holds) be balanced by cooler weather through the 30 day period. We’ll see what happens.
More updates to come.
