Glass Fire Extent, Western Boundary as of Thursday

The Glass Fire’s overall extent and western boundary as of Thursday morning. The fire was considered 5% contained. One containment line stretched just east of Calistoga Road in the Rincon Valley.
Although most of the western boundary of the fire near Santa Rosa has been relatively quiet for the last two days, enough hot spots exist that Cal Fire is not listing areas as fully contained until those are completely put out.  Fire behavior experts are concerned about the southeast sector of the fire zone, northeast of Kenwood, where backfiring occurred on Wednesday.  They will be monitoring this area closely as northwest winds pick up late on Thursday to insure southward fire spread does not occur.
Another complicating factor is the Red Flag Warning and heat event that will be with us into Friday. Fire officials are bracing for any flare-ups that might occur due to the combination of hot temperatures, low humidity levels and gusty winds from the northwest.
