Fire Weather Watch Issued

Share with Friends

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch, with thunderstorms and dry lightning a definite possibility across large areas of Northern California from this afternoon through early Thursday. The watch has been issued for mountains of Mendocino and Lake counties northward across interior California.

The combination of monsoonal moisture from the south interacting with a low pressure trough bringing cool air from the northwest will likely set off thunderstorms beginning this afternoon.  You can see them developing in this satellite image.

And, skies are already clouding up in these views from fire cameras in the North Bay.

For the North Bay, there is a chance of dry lightning by late this afternoon, and fire agencies are watching the situation closely.  Even so, most of the thunderstorm activity is expected to take place further north, over the mountains of interior northern California and the Sierra.
