Dry Lightning, Thunderstorms Possible Wednesday

Fire concerns will be heightened on Wednesday as monsoonal moisture from the Southwest pushes north into the Bay Area. This influx of subtropical clouds could set off some dry thunderstorms and spark wildfires.

On Tuesday we can see the moisture working it’s way into Southern California, while a trough of low pressure heads in from the northwest.

As you can see, we’re being squeezed between moisture from the north and south. That will increase the thickness of our coastal marine layer, and also bring us mid level clouds and a chance of scattered thunderstorms, especially over the hills of the North Bay on Wednesday.

Will lightning and thunder arrive? Hard to say, but the ingredients are right for convection and thunderstorms somewhere in the region. And if they arrive, they could bring dry lightning.

You can bet that weather forecasters as well as Cal Fire and other fire agencies will be watching the skies closely over the next 24-36 hours.
