Coming together to bridge disagreements in the face of an unprecendented crisis, White House and House Democrats reached agreement Friday on a coronavirus relief package to spend tens of billions of dollars on sick leave, unemployment insurance, food stamps and other measures to address the unfolding crisis.

The so called Families First Coronavirus Response Act would insure free coronavirus testing, even for the uninsured, 2 weeks of paid sick leave, and up to three months of paid family and medical leave.

Congress passed an $8.3 billlion coronavirus relief bill last week, but there was widespread agreement that more was needed as the crisis continues to unfold.

Meanwhile, the Sonoma County Health Officer has issued an order, effective Friday March 13th, prohibiting gatherings of 250 or more and limiting others.

The Health Officer will also issue tougher rules effective March 14th, limiting visits to nursing homes and other senior care facilities to essential caregivers only.

Here is a summary of Friday’s order.

· Gatherings for at-risk groups over 10 people must be cancelled or postponed, except for family gatherings.
· Smaller gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet per person should be postponed or canceled.
· This includes gatherings such as concerts, conferences, and professional, college, and school sporting events.
· Smaller gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet per person should be postponed or canceled.
· This includes gatherings in crowded auditoriums, rooms or other venues.
· In accordance with this Health Order, the Sonoma County Veterans Halls be closed during this time for public meetings.
· Activities such as attendance at regular school classes, work, courthouses, detention facilities, or essential services are exempt from this Order.
