County Beaches and Parking Open, State Beaches to Follow Saturday

If you’re looking for a beach escape, we have some good news for you.

For the first time in many weeks Sonoma County residents will be able to drive to parking lots and beaches at the coast beginning on Wednesday.

An updated order issued by the public health officer late Tuesday allows sunbathing, hiking, fishing surfing and other water sports to take place, and opens parking lots to visitors.

The order replaces one issued May 12th that only allowed walk-in access to coastal beaches, and kept them closed during much of the day. The order also applies to other park beaches in Sonoma County.

Although all county beaches are eligible to reopen, only Sonoma County Regional Parks’ will be fully open on Wednesday. State Parks along the coast will need a couple of days to prepare and remove parking barriers.

As is now commonplace, the order requires anyone using beaches to practice social distancing or use face coverings when in close proximity with others.
