BRIEF HEAT UP. 90-100 IN HOTTEST LOCATIONS OF THE NORTH BAY.

Share with Friends

California will be squeezed between two intensifying high pressure systems beginning around mid-week, one to our west and one to our southeast.

That will cause our daytime high temperatures to pop up by 5-10 degrees from Wednesday into Saturday. However, the heat up will be moderated somewhat by a cool low pressure trough passing to our north.

Still, onshore winds will weaken, allowing warmer temperatures to develop even near the coast. Expect 90s inland, and up to 70 or so along the coast beginning on Thursday. You can see the warmer temperatures forecast across California, including in the closeup view of Northern California for Saturday afternoon.

These are the “anomaly forecasts”, meaning the expected departure from average for the date. Red is hotter, blue is cooler. Green is coolest.

By California standards this will be a moderate heat up, certainly nothing severe in the forecast. Still something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to the heat or will be working or playing outside.

By Sunday the the heat will begin to moderate as high pressure weakens and the onshore flow redevelops. You can see by Tuesday daytime temperatures may once again drop near to or slightly below average for the date.

Looking further into August, as we’ve reported, the latest output from the major models agree that California may experience near average temperatures for the month, but the Southwest and Arizona look to remain hotter than average. Stay tuned!
