Big, Long-Awaited Rain Arrives Saturday Morning

Share with Friends

After the long wait, the first big Northern California rain since late January is about to arrive.

The deep, cold low center will move south on Friday to a position just off the California coast.

Rain will begin across the North Bay sometime Saturday morning, and will ramp up through the day.

These graphics shows how much we can expect by early Monday.

Generally around an inch across the North Bay this weekend.  More in the hills.  And the forecasts have been trending wetter.   In the Sierra this may be the biggest snowstorm of the season, with up to 5 feet of snow above 5000 feet.

It also looks to stay stormy, with a low center just off the coast sending more rain in at times through Wednesday.  Here’s a forecast for total rain by late Wednesday.

Low pressure looks to stay anchored over the West Coast through late March, keeping the storm door open.

And the end of the month looks wet at this point.

So expect a stormy week ahead.  With Northern California rainfall at 50% or less of normal, we desperately need the moisture.  And more seems likely to arrive through the end of March.  Good news for a parched California.
