Stubborn COVID-19 Case Rates Keep Sonoma County in Purple Tier

The latest state data for Sonoma County shows that overall case rates continue as the main barrier to the county’s movement out of California’s most restrictive, purple tier.
The county currently has an adjusted daily case rate of 10.6 per 100 thousand, an overall positivity rate of 5% and Health Equity Positivity rate (disproportionately impacted communities) of 7.5%. Among other measures, the overall case rate needs to be 7 or lower to move to the state’s less restrictive red tier. By contrast, the county’s overall positivity rate of 5% already meets the state threshold of 8% for movement to the red tier.
This compares with overall California case rates of 6.8 cases per day per 100 thousand, and a 3.4% overall positivity rate.
This week Sonoma County health officials announced plans to partner with employers to conduct more testing of employees, and to expand testing among the county’s disproportionately impacted communities.
