Sonoma County Investigating Criminal Charges Against Foppoli In Wake of Assault Allegations

Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch is asking potential victims to contact her office following the bombshell allegations waged against Windsor Mayor Dominic Foppoli which first appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday.

Four women told the newspaper that Foppoli sexually assaulted them in attacks that allegedly took place from 2003 to 2019.

The charges have brought widespread reaction and condemnation by local elected officials, with Santa Rosa Major Chris Rogers, State Senator Mike McGuire, and Supervisors James Gore and Lynda Hopkins among those who were first to call for Foppoli to resign. Each of the officials pointed to the detailed and specific nature of the accounts in calling on the Windsor Mayor to step down.

District Attorney Ravitch said on Thursday that she would be assigning a chief deputy district attorney and chief investigator to the task of reviewing the allegations against Foppoli. Later in the day Sonoma County Sheriff Mark Essick said his department would conduct it’s own investigation to determine if criminal charges should be filed.

The 38 year old Foppoli’s Los Angeles based attorney released a statement on Thursday saying the mayor takes the allegations seriously, and has a long history of supporting women.

Meanwhile, other elected officials calling for his resignation included Assemblyman Jim Wood, Healdsburg Councilmember Ariel Kelley, and Windsor Town Council member Esther Lemus.

Besides being the currently elected Mayor of Windsor, Foppoli is part of a well-known winemaking family and is owner of the Christopher Creek Winery near Healdsburg.
