TEMPERATURE RECORDS SET. RED FLAG WARNING EXTENDED. GLASS FIRE FLARE-UPS STAY WITHIN CONTAINMENT LINES.
Due to continued critical fire weather conditions, the Red Flag Warning for the North Bay mountains has been extended until 8AM on Saturday morning.
Although winds tonight will not be as strong as the last two nights, the National Weather Service feels critical fire conditions warrant extending the Red Flag Warning. Winds will gust up to 30 miles per hour in the North Bay mountains tonight according to the forecast. In addition, relative humidities remain extremely low across the region, with little overnight humidity recovery.
Meanwhile, Cal Fire advises that smoke visible to the east of Santa Rosa near Oakmont is being generated by flare-ups in unburned areas within the Glass Fire containment lines. Crews are on the scene and monitoring any flare-ups that occur.
By 3PM Friday, Sonoma County Airport had reached 100 degrees, setting a record high temperature for a second day. The old record was 90 set in 2008. Relative humidity was at just 8%. Thursday’s high temperature of 98 was also a record for the date, beating the previous record of 91 set in 1999.
At mid-afternoon, high temperatures throughout central Sonoma County ranged from the mid 90s to over 100 degrees.
