Rain Pushes in Friday Afternoon, Trends are Positive

Share with Friends

As the first December rain pushes into our area on Friday, overall trends for the coming weeks are positive for more storms. First, the satellite image shows the weekend storm about to arrive in California. (Image 1)

By late Sunday the North Bay should pick up over an inch of rain, with possibly 2 inches in the hills. (Image 2)

Most of the rain should be moderate in intensity, and at this point is not forecast to cause debris flow issues on the region’s burn scars.

As for the coming week, we may pick up some showers from storms passing to our north. Next Saturday (the 19th) may be our best bet for significant rain after this weekend. The European model sees a storm making it south into the North Bay. (Image 3)

It looks like high pressure will then build in, giving us mostly dry weather until the last few days of December. But after that teleconnections may come into alignment providing a wetter than average January. Long range forecasts are unreliable, but the European model, the gold standard, is now digging storms south into Northern California with above normal precipitation for January. A good sign.
