Public Weighs In on Downtown Future

What should downtown Santa Rosa look like five or ten years from now?

That was the question the city of Santa Rosa took directly to the people on Wednesday night, hosting the first in a series of public outreach workshops designed to gather input on the future of the downtown core.

Another workshop is coming up on Saturday May 4th at 9AM at Chops Teen Club, and the city will also have tables at the Cinco de Mayo celebration and the Wednesday Night Market.

Santa Rosa is updating its Downtown Station Area Specific Plan, a document adopted way back in 2007 that was designed in part to bring more housing, and residents to the downtown core. That hasn’t happened.

It’s hoped the new plan being developed will do a better job to lure investment, and possibly bring 10 to 12 story high rise housing developments to downtown, along with a host of services and transportation options that will make people want to live there.

City planning supervisor Jessica Jones says public imput will be key as the process moves forward.
