Protest Breaks Out Again in Downtown Santa Rosa

Share with Friends

A crowd of protesters gathered once again Sunday evening in downtown Santa Rosa, lining up on the south side of Courthouse Square along 3rd Street.

Similar to last evening, many in the crowd carried signs expressing anger over the death of George Floyd, the Minneapolis man killed by police last Monday.

Unlike Saturday, Sunday night’s gathering of about 100 to 200 demonstrators did not follow a rally and march but appeared to spring up spontaneously in the Square.

3rd Street was partially blocked for a time as an apparent protest leader stood atop a vehicle leading the crowd in the chant “black lives matter.” A few fireworks were set off.

At least one building at the square was tagged with graffiti. Just before 10pm Santa Rosa police officers took up positions across 3rd Street blocking access to Highway 101, and a protest leader called on those in attendence to keep the peace.
