PG&E Begins to Inspect Lines/Restore North Bay Power

Early Thursday afternoon PG&E announced an all clear for the city of Santa Rosa and most of the North Bay, and said it would begin to inspect power lines and restore power as quickly as possible. According to the utility, power may be restored to parts of Santa Rosa as early as this evening.

Across their vast service area PG&E says it will give priority to urban areas in the push to restore power.

Earlier today PG&E announced that it had restored power to 160 thousand customers in the Northern part of the state where winds had diminished earlier in the day, and would begin inspections across the North Bay and parts of the Bay Area by Thursday afternoon.

PG&E has been under fire for the extent of the power shutdowns, and the chaos created when their website, designed to give customers and cities outage information, went down repeatedly during the crisis.

California Governor Gavin Newsom told reporters he was furious with the utility giant, saying that although power shutdowns were necessary during the current crisis, it was PG&E’s own lack of accountability and attention to hardening its infrastructure that caused the crisis in the first place.

Red Flag warnings continue across most of the region due to low humidity and continuing breezy conditions, but the worst of the winds are behind us.
