One Year Since Flooding. From Wettest, to Driest.

Just one year ago, massive flooding was occurring along the Russian River as torrential atmospheric river rainfall poured down on the North Bay. For most locations, it was among the wettest Februaries on record.

One year later, February 2020 will go down as the driest on record across most of Northern California.

As of February 28th, Santa Rosa (along with much of Northern California) has seen no rain in the month, compared to 16.97 inches last year.  Since January 1st, the city has received 2.38 inches of rain, compared to 25.08 in the same period last year.  And since October 1st, 15.82 inches have fallen, compared to 34.73 at this time last year.

And one year ago, News of the North Bay was reporting on flooding along the Russian River at Healdsburg and Guerneville.  What a difference a year makes!

The good news is that after the deluge of 2018-2019, the state’s reservoirs are in good shape.  And rain is predicted to return to the North Bay starting around March 7th, and continuing off and on throughout the month.

Still, due to the lack of rainfall, portions of California are once again classified in moderate drought.
