No Power Shutoffs Monday in North Bay, Still Possible Tuesday

On Monday afternoon, PG&E said it did not plan to begin power shutoffs late Monday to any customers in the North Bay counties of Sonoma, Napa or Lake. However, the utility kept the region at a power shutoff “watch’ level and said depending on weather, shutoffs could occur on Tuesday.

Meantime, 21 thousand customers in Nevada, Butte and Yuba counties in the northern Sierra will have their power cut beginning at 5PM Monday due to expected hot, dry and windy fire weather conditions there. The shutoffs will include portions of the cities of Grass Valley and Marysville.

Earlier in the afternoon, Sonoma County officials declared a State of Emergency across the county, activating the county’s emergency operations center, and positioning firefighting equipment and crews in areas where fires are more likely.

Most of Northern California including the North and East Bay hills remain under a Red Flag Warning, due to expected hot weather, low humidity and high winds.

In this map, Zone 5 (the northern Sierra) will have power shutoffs beginning Monday afternoon, but shutoffs could extend to other counties, including the North Bay hills and East Bay hills on Tuesday if dangerous conditions develop.

High temperatures are expected to be in the high 90s and 100s across interior parts of the North and East Bay on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the strongest winds are expected Monday night and Tuesday afternoon and evening. They may gust to 35 miles per hour from the north and northeast, strongest in the hills.

By Wednesday, the winds should diminish, and by Thursday a major cool down will begin, which will drop our temperatures by 30 degrees or more by Sunday when showers are possible as a deep low pressure system from the Northwest moves into Northern California.
