Critical Fire Weather on the Way (Again)

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for dangerous fire conditions that will arrive on early Wednesday and last into Thursday. The greatest concern is for late Wednesday night, into Thursday morning.

The combination of dry, gusty north to northeast winds and low fuel moisture will result in critical fire danger for a large swath of Northern California, including most of the North Bay including the hills and valley areas including Santa Rosa.

The Fire Weather Watch will likely become a warning by late Monday as the event approaches. Here are the projected wind speeds across Northern California.

This wind event is expected to be stronger and more widespread than the one last week. That means PGandE may shut off power to more widespread areas than last week, but at this time (Monday), no Public Safety Power Shutoff events have been announced.

All of this will be caused by a low pressure “inside slider” that will pass to our east, tightening up the pressure gradient across California. Winds will be gusty, but temperatures should not rise as high as last week.

The event will come on the 2nd anniversary of the North Bay Firestorms, and will likely cause lots of anxiety across the North Bay region. News of the North Bay will keep you updated on changing conditions as they are announced.
