Air Quality Remains Unhealthful Across Sonoma County, Bay Area

Share with Friends

Air quality remains unhealthy for all groups across Sonoma County and the North Bay Thursday. Wildfire smoke from the August Complex and Bear Fires to our north and northeast, the the Creek Fire to the southeast continues to blanket almost all of northern and central California.

The smoke is mixing with a marine layer that is about 2 thousand feet thick, creating a barrier to sunshine and surface heating.  Because of that, expect temperatures to once again be very cool across the North Bay and Bay Area, with the upper 60s forecast in most areas, some 20 degrees or so below seasonal averages.  All of this will be slowly changing back to more normal conditions, especially as fires settle down, but it appears the transition will take several days.

Here are the Thursday midday readings across Sonoma County, along with a simple guide to interpreting the air quality index, and finally, a satellite view of the smoke over Caliifornia.
