Western Fire Lines Hold: Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg Safe

Although winds did materialize last night across Sonoma County they were not as strong as our previous Red Flag event. As a result, Kincade fire crews held the lines along the South and Western fronts of the fire, meaning the fire made no further major advances towards Santa Rosa or Windsor and Healdsburg.

Some 5,000 firefighters are now deployed to the Kincade fire, along with 600 fire engines 27 helicopters and numerous firefighting aircraft.

The fire is at just over 76,000 acres and 30% containment Wednesday morning. Importantly, no wind events are expected of the next 10 days giving firefighters on hand the opportunity to eliminate any lingering threats on the western side of the fire where it threatened major cities along the 101 corridor.

The fire is still active along the eastern edge. Here is the morning picture from Mt. St. Helena.

It’s expected that the Sonoma County Sheriff will begin to allow residents to return to areas that have been evacuated including parts of Santa Rosa and perhaps other cities along the 101 Corridor today.

At the same time PG&E is expected to begin turning power back on to some 300,000 or more North Bay residents have had their power off for most of all of the past 7 days.
