Weekend Storm Trending Wet for Sonoma County

Even as one storm moves out of the area today, another wet frontal system is set to arrive on Saturday, and could bring up to 3 inches of rain to Sonoma County and much of the North Bay by Monday.

Here is the storm that moved through early Wednesday.

And the next system ramping up in the North Pacific that will arrive on Saturday.

The storm will direct an atmospheric river toward Washington and Oregon where flood watches are in effect, but for us it will bring significant rain across much of Northern California. Here is the outlook for rain beginning late on Saturday.

And the expected rain amounts. Over 2 inches possible for Sonoma County! Other models also show 1.5 to 3 inches across the North Bay.

For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day the models show a low drifting south along the coast, perhaps bringing a shot of additional rain. The Canadian model has rain arriving on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, and continuing on Christmas Day.

Meantime, the GFS model has rain holding off until Christmas Day.

So, if you’re planning to travel, expect rain and mountain snow at times from this Saturday, right through Christmas Day. There will be breaks at times, but showery weather will be the rule.

Further into the future, the outlook right now for the week between Christmas and New Years is much drier. High pressure building into the North Pacific should keep us mostly dry as shown by the Climate Forecast System outlook.
