Thunderstorms Hit Sonoma County, Up to Half Inch of Rain Reported

As Sonoma County sheltered in place for a 5th day, Mother Nature put on a show in parts of the region with afternoon thunderstorms moving across the North Bay between 3PM and 5PM.

This lightning shot is from Bennett Valley in Santa Rosa.

Here’s what it looked like on radar.

Parts of Sonoma and Napa counties received up to a half inch of rain. Santa Rosa officially recorded .31 inch, while other areas had only a trace.

The storm was caused by instability on the back side of a low pressure system that was moving inland over Southern California.

Showers will move out tonight, but return on Tuesday afternoon as another storm moves down the West Coast. You can see it on the satellite view.

That one will bring us another brief shot of rain before more springlike weather arrives later in the week. And odds are the warmer, drier weather will be with us into early April.
