Thousands Remain without Power Late Monday in PG&E Shutoff

Even as a second night of high winds is anticipated for the mountains of the North Bay, thousands of customers representing tens of thousands of residents across the region remain without power after more than 24 hours in many cases.  This as forecasts call for night time low temperatures dropping into the 30s to low 40s in the valleys of Sonoma County by early Tuesday.

Weather forecasters expect another burst of winds late Monday in the mountains of the North Bay, but expect this event to be far less severe than Sunday night’s extreme conditions that brought wind gusts of over 80 miles per hour to many of the regions highest peaks and ridges.

Meantime, PG&E announced that it would try to begin restoring power in some areas by late Monday, but most areas of the region may be out until Tuesday afternoon or evening.

Late on Monday evening, large areas of Sonoma County remained without power.  PG&E says that due to the widespread nature of the overnight winds, it will take some time to assess damage throughout its electrical infrastructure network, and restore power on deenergized lines.
