THE CHURNING PACIFIC: MORE STORMS ON THE WAY

As of Thursday January 5th, a series of storm systems are lined up in the North Pacific ocean, aimed at Northern California in the latest infared satellite loop from Thursday afternoon. (Image 1) This follows storms that have already dropped more than a foot of rain across parts of the North Bay in the past 10 days.

Weather models forecast these systems, some 3-4 major storms, to arrive in Northern California over the next 7-10 days. Some may be accompanied by very moist atmospheric river moisture plumes.

After a brief break Friday morning into afternoon, the next storm in the series will arrive around midnight or early Saturday and last into Sunday. With another storm due on Monday, the rain may be virtually non-stop from Saturday through Tuesday. (Image 2)

Arriving every 2 days or so, the storms will bring a foot or more of additional rainfall to much the North Bay and Northern California, and cause renewed flooding of streams and mainstem rivers across the region periodically for the next 7 to 10 days. (Image 3)
