Sonoma County Coronavirus Cases Reach 39

The Sonoma County Department of Public Health reported 3 new active cases of coronavirus through testing on Wednesday, bringing the total number of Sonoma County cases since the outbreak began to 39. There are currently 34 active cases, while one death has been reported, and 4 coronavirus patients have recovered. The Public Health Lab says the total number of processed tests stands at 775.

The Public Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase says the public should expect the number of cases to continue to grow as continued testing reveals more cases of community spread.

Across California, the number of active cases grew on Wednesday to 2959, with 65 deaths reported. Epidemiologists and the California Office of Emergency Services have said they expect the number of cases across the state to continue to rise for some time as more widespread testing ramps up, and before the impact of shelter-in-place orders begins to flatten the disease curve across the state.

Two days ago Mase ordered all county parks to close to prevent overcrowded conditions that had developed in some parks from worsening the coronavirus outbreak. On Tuesday, Sonoma County Supervisors moved to protect renters by approving an ordinance that freezes evictions during the county coronavirus emergency, and for 60 days afterward, allowing renters who may have lost their employment to make up past due rent.
