Smoke Blankets North Bay, Holds Temperatures Down
An extensive deck of smoke continues to cover Sonoma County and the North Bay Tuesday afternoon.
This smoke has formed a thick layer above 1000 feet and is being generated by fires in Northern California, including the Oak Fire near Willets and the August Complex. Prevailing winds from the north and north-east have driven this smoke over the Bay Area, Sonoma County and the Sacramento area.
The thick layer of smoke is helping to hold down temperatures, which are running up to 20 degrees cooler than Monday. Although surface air pollution has been moderate, as smoke mixes to the surface later in the day air pollution levels may increase.
The satellite images show the smoke over the North Bay and much of California Tuesday afternoon.
