School Work, Chromebooks Distributed to Sebastopol Students

Across Sonoma County, tens of thousands of K-12 students, their parents and teachers are adapting to life without traditional school.

And for everyone, that has meant finding innovative ways to keep students learning.

In Sebastopol, families in the 450 student strong Sebastopol Union School District received their curriculum materials from teachers at two drive up locations on Wednesday.

For the younger students and their parents, that meant dropping by Park Side Elementary for a brown bag full of materials. Teachers in the district will be using Google Classroom to provide instruction to their students and keep the learning happening during the weeks that the district’s classrooms will be closed.

Like many other districts, families needing meals for their students were able to pick them up, also without getting out of their cars. And the district gave out around 150 Chromebooks to those students without access to a computer.

Superintendent Linda Irving told News of the North Bay that while students are handling the changes well, parents are a bit more emotional, and also thankful that virtual learning will continue in the weeks ahead.
