Red Flag Warnings Return. Power Shutoffs Planned in areas of North Bay.

A new Red Flag Warning will begin Wednesday night at 10PM and continue through 8AM Friday morning for the North Bay mountains, the East Bay hills and valleys, and the mountainous areas of the South Bay.

This event will be moderate with winds gusting above 40 miles per hour on the highest peaks and ridges of northern Sonoma and Napa counties. Winds are also expected to filter down to the valleys in some areas, especially in the East Bay. Continuing low humidity and record dry fuels are additional concerns.

This is being caused by a continuing series of low pressure systems that are transiting to our north. Wind gusts may reach 50 miles per hour overnight Wednesday and Thursday, before subsiding on Friday. But there is a good chance of another, even stronger wind event for late in the weekend that will bring more Red Flag conditions to the North Bay.

Although no rain is expected to reach us, we will get a blast of cooler air by the weekend, bringing temperatures down to the low 70s in most areas. As you can see, the rain is expected to pass to our north, with perhaps some showers in the Sierra.

The prospect of high winds has caused PG&E to announce that it will shutoff power to customers in parts of 19 Northern California counties beginning early Thursday morning. This includes 960 customers in Sonoma County, 4300 in Napa County, and 963 in Lake County.
