Red Flag Warning, Winds to 50 MPH. All Eyes on Late Monday through Tuesday.

In the midst of our Excessive Heat event, a Red Flag Warning goes into effect this evening through early Wednesday morning for a wide swath of North Bay hills and mountains. In addition a Wind Advisory has been issued for the mountains of the North Bay for Tuesday.

As News of the North Bay has reported this offshore wind event has been expected for several days. It’s predicted to peak early Tuesday morning with gusts of from 35 to 50 miles per hour at the highest peaks in Northern Sonoma County and eastern Napa County. It’s also believed that some strong winds may extend into the Walbridge Fire area and the Hennessy Fire complex.

Although the National Weather Service is officially predicting winds up to 50 miles per hour in gusts, according to new model guidance on Monday the NWS suggests winds may exceed 60 miles per hour on the top of Mt. St. Helena and a few other high elevation spots.

Because of this, the National Weather Service has also issued a Wind Advisory for the North Bay mountains from 5 a.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. Tuesday. This advisory warns of winds from 15 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up from 45 to 65 miles per hour with a possibility of downed tree limbs and power lines.

PG&E is warning power could be shut off in areas due to the wind event. A Public Safety Power Shut off watch has been issued.

Obviously, this is of great concern to regional fire agencies who have added additional staffing once again due to the extreme fire potential.
