Red Flag Warning Tonight: Possible Dry Lightning

Share with Friends

National Weather Service forecasters are calling for a chance of dry lightning tonight, prompting a Red Flag Warning for the Bay Area and North Bay beginning at 11PM Saturday night, through 11AM  Sunday morning.  Although the chance of showers and thundershowers for the North Bay is relatively low, forecasters issued the Warning due to the critically dry and hot conditions across the region.

Tropical moisture being pulled north by the upper flow around strong high pressure to our east will bring clouds and the chance of high-based thundershowers to our region overnight Saturday through Sunday morning.

Already around noon Saturday thundershowers and dry lightning were being reported south of Monterey and north of Santa Barbara with some fire starts reported.  This activity is forecast to move north throughout the day and into the overnight hours.

Cal Fire and fire agencies throughout the region are on high alert due to the chance of fire starts tonight, especially with the heat wave having left fuels at critically low moisture levels.

News of the North Bay will update this information as conditions require.
