RED FLAG AND HIGH WIND EVENT. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Over the next 2-3 days nearly all of California will experience a wind event. These conditions will bring heightened fire weather danger along with limited PG&E power shutoffs.

INSIDE SLIDER

As of Sunday, a deep low pressure trough is dropping south. (Image 1) It will be over the Great Basin by early Monday. (Image 2) The pressure gradients will cause winds to increase across all of California. The jet stream will be passing right over California. (Image 3)

WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for much of the region, including the hills and mountains of the North Bay beginning at 11PM Sunday. (Image 4) A Wind Advisory also goes into effect for a wide area Monday morning. (Image 5)

WINDS EXPECTED

Winds will reach a peak in the early hours of Monday morning, gusting as high as 40-60mph on the peaks. These are winds at the 2500 foot level. (Image 6) And surface winds, which may gust into the 25-35mph range in places across the Bay Area. (Image 7)

PSPS POWER SHUTOFFS

PG&E has announced it will shut off power to thousands across the state but only a limited number of customers focused in mostly rural areas of the eastern North Bay, especially in Napa County.

The power shutoffs will start at 5AM Monday and last through 10PM Tuesday. (Image 9 and 10) This includes 2428 customers in Napa County, 4008 customers in Lake County, and 87 customers in Sonoma County. As the event unfolds, PG&E may add to or reduce the number of shutoffs.
