Record May Rains and More on the Way

As advertised, the unusually strong and wet late season storm that began Tuesday night dropped record 24 hour rains by late Wednesday in spots all across the North Bay. Here’s what it looked like as the low center moved inland Thursday.

The numbers so far have been impressive! Charles Schultz Sonoma County Airport recorded 2.10 inches in 24 hours, far more than the old record for the date of just .29 inches.

Meanwhile, Venado northwest of Lake Sonoma, had the most rain we could find in the state…another 24 hour record at 5.00 inches! That crushed the old record for the date of 1.08 inches.

Meanwhile, as the low pressure center moved across the North Bay, heavy rain resumed Thursday, and an additional 1/2 to 1.5 inches of rain is possible by Friday including scattered thunderstorms.

Looking ahead, another storm is inbound for Saturday and Saturday night, and could drop another healthy shot of rain, in the order of 1/2 to 1 inch. Here is a look at the impressive Saturday storm taking shape in the Pacific to our west. You can also see the low pressure center coming ashore in Northern California.

Further out, even more rain and unsettled weather is headed our way through the middle of the coming week. In fact, models show we could pick up lots more rain in the next few days. The National Weather Service is forecasting 1-2 more inches for our area through the weekend. And more by midweek.
