RAINFALL TOTALS ACROSS THE NORTH BAY. SHOWERS IN FORECAST.

The wettest spots of the North Bay recorded more than 3 inches of rain from the Sunday-Monday storm. The highest totals came from the mountains and coast of northwestern Sonoma County and Mendocino County, with Gualala well over 3 inches, and Oak Ridge (near Annapolis), Cazadero, Venado, Lake Sonoma, Yorkville and Cloverdale all over 2 inches.

Many hilly areas were over an inch, while valley areas ranged from a third to a full inch in most cases.

The low pressure system responsible for our rain continues to spin off the coast, west of the Bay Area. That will bring a chance for showers through early Tuesday before the system begins to move east.

Already, the rain has brought an improvement in both the Energy Release Component of fuels across the North Bay region (blue line), as well as the 1000 hour fuel (heavy fuel) moisture content (blue line).

However, although the rain will slow the onset of the height of the fire season, the consensus among fire experts is that it will not bring it to an end, with more warm, dry weather in the forecast over the next few weeks into mid October.
