Rain Late Saturday, Then Dry Pattern Sets In

If you’re holding out hope for a wet end to the month, you may be disappointed. After a light rain event Saturday into Sunday, an extended period of dry and warm weather may last through the first week of February.

You can see the next storm headed in. The North Bay will catch a bit of rain from the southern end late Saturday.

As for rain, not too much. For most areas, just a few tenths of an inch. The usual wet spots will get more.

Looking at the next couple of weeks, high pressure will move in. Although we may get a few sprinkles from time to time as storms pass to our north, we can expect a dry spell that may last into the 2nd week of February.

The forecast models show lots of rain in the Northwest, but very little reaching us through February 9th.

And after that? Way out in the long range there are indications that a trough of low pressure may sag into the West around the 2nd week of February, possibly bringing us cooler weather and showers.

But, for now, it looks like an extended dry spell. Which is not unusual for January.

Until rain returns, temperatures will rise, generally a few degrees above normal through the start of Febuary. In fact, the Climate Forecast Center’s outlook shows the month as a whole may be warmer than normal across California.
